Hi, this is Ron Kaufman at the Lux Ari Atoll in the island nation of the Maldives.
I’ve been a scuba diver since 1976 and I’ve been diving more than 2000 times. I’d like to tell you two quick stories.
#1
19 years ago I was in Western Australia, at a place called Ningaloo Reef, Navy Pier. I went there to see whale sharks and manta rays. What I didn’t expect was to find a mermaid in the dive shop. There was a woman there named Jen. She was handling all of the service requirements for various customers, well, we could feel the chemistry.
So after a few days she was open with me and I walked in one day she wasn’t in a very good mood and she was sharing that and all of a sudden the bell at the door rang. In came a couple from Germany who wanted to book dives. She looked at me. She went down and came right back up again with a big smile on her face and said to this German couple.
“Hi. Can I help you?”
In that moment I realized she understood the heart of being in service to somebody else. What matters is what you can do with them.
I went back there, three weeks later. Took her out to dinner. We’ve been together ever since.
Now we’re both passionate scuba divers. We enjoy diving together. On this trip, we did 37 dives in 13 days. That gives us our sense of health and restoration and joy and life, but we also have a hobby inside the hobby. We love to pick up trash from scuba diving sites. In fact, one of the most enjoyable things for us is when we find fishing line or rope or diapers or T-shirts or bags or metal or anything else that really doesn’t belong on the reef and we enjoy bringing it up.
So as you’re looking now at some of the photographs of just our most recent dives and the bags will crash that we collect, it’s all because, well, we know we’re here to enjoy, but we also want to leave this place better than we found it.
That’s the message I’d like to leave with you and ask of you, as you live your life and do the things that you love. What will you do to leave this world than you found it? Tell me what your story is, and I’ll keep telling you mine.
Thank you for watching this video. Your dedication to serving better and caring more makes the world a better place for everyone. I hope we can stay in touch, so please follow me to receive more uplifting ideas, practical insights and free resources.
