Want to know one of the easiest keys to truly exceptional service? Here’s a hint: It’s not about you. You and your teams can easily create unforgettable experiences with a simple shift in focus to the other person! More specifically, to the future well-being of the person you’re serving.
When you prioritize the well-being of others, amazing things happen. You’re no longer focusing on yourself – on whether you’ll make the sale or avoid a mistake. Instead, you make a genuine and authentic connection. And this builds trust and loyalty with the person you’re serving. Your best self shines through. You will find it a pleasure to serve. And those you serve will respond enthusiastically.
When everyone in your organization makes this shift, it strengthens your service culture enormously. Organizations that embrace this approach:
Build deeper connections with customers
Foster loyal and trusting employees AND customers
Motivate employees to continuously improve the service experience
What steps can you take to refocus your organization’s service on the well-being of the recipient?

It’s not about you. Yeah, you got the check. You got selected. But it’s not about you. It’s about what’s happening to them.
And so, when you devote yourself to the well-being of others, you light up. The best of you comes out naturally. That was one of the best advice I got from him during coaching, because I told him that I was very nervous. I was having stage fright. And you know, what he said to me is, “Eric, do you know why you have stage fright? Because you shined a light on yourself. When you put the light on yourself, you care about what the audience thinks about you. Obviously, you’re going to be nervous.”
He said, if you start shining the light on others, “How can I make this the best speech ever?” Nervousness goes away because it’s not about you. So that was one of the best advice I got for public speaking. Anxiety is replaced by curiosity.
