Bogota is the capital and most populous city of Colombia, with a population of approximately 8.8 million. Sitting at an altitude of 2640 m (8,660 feet) on the high plateau of the Bogota Savannah, Bogota is the third highest capital in the world after La Paz (in Bolivia) and Quito (in Ecuador).
