Making my way around Mauritius, I find a little nugget of wisdom amongst the flora and fauna, a gift from the greatest caregiver of all, one might say, mother nature herself.
A perfect testament to the popular adage, a little goes a long way, this certainly holds true in the service industry.
By making just a little bit of effort, showing your customers you truly care about their experience can go a long way, as it will create loyal customers, as this gesture will forever be etched in their memories.

Hi, this is Ron Kaufman. I’m in Singapore today at a Salesforce event that’s gathered thousands of people here from all over the Asia Pacific. It’s called Base camp. And while there are partners here and customers here and employees here and all kinds of success stories about people who’ve used the Salesforce ecosystem and platform that help their customers and help their businesses grow.
I want to zoom in on one particular aspect of the Salesforce global community of what Salesforce calls their Ohana. And it has to do with not salesforce.com, which you can find online, but salesforce.org, which you can also find online, which is where Salesforce has their entire social enterprise. And one key component of that is called the 1% pledge, where Salesforce themselves and encourages other businesses, dedicate 1 percent of equity, one percent of technology, and one percent of all employee time towards helping nonprofit and community organizations succeed.
You can find out more about this too at pledgeonepercent.org. The co-founder of Salesforce and former CEO Marc Benioff says that the purpose of business is improving the state of the world and salesforce.org, and this pledge 1% is just one example of making that happen.
What is the purpose of your business? What’s the purpose of our lives? What is the purpose of our community together? Making the world a better place. Ron Kaufman, reporting to you from base camp in Singapore.
